Firstly you will need to have the control box palette open... to open it go to windows > palettes > select control box... within here you will see a command with a symbol showing two parallel zig zag lines (called offset)... select the arc/circle tool > select offset > hold down space bar for magic wand and click on the edge of the spline line... a parallel line will then start to come off your spline... click where you want it placed... this has placed down a line parallel to the original spline... however it is made of arcs not a spline... now you have to select the spline tool and magic wand a spline over the top of the arc line... you can now delete the arc line... to delete it easily draw a marquee around the area > select the arc tool > ctrl+A... this will select all arcs within the marquee...
